In a country girt by sea and with boundless inland waterways, many of the population decide at some time or other to get into boating. If you’re one, then the Savage 485 Bay Cruiser is worth considering as a great little entry level cabin cruiser.
At a handy 16’ or 5.5m, the Savage 485 is a nimble, easy to handle boat for newcomers and less experienced boaters to gain confidence and experience while having a load of fun.
Smart Looks and Big on Features
Small in size but big on looks. This is a smart-looking boat with plenty of inclusions in the standard offering.
Savage boats are built with strength, all hand welded and undergone stringent quality control at the Coomera manufacturing facility. The Savage 485 Bay Cruiser is made of a 3mm alloy and features the Savage Ultra Lift Hull in Gelcoat white. The design of the hull gives a smooth ride with the extended reverse chines effectively minimising spray.
The 485 has capacity for 5 people and comfortable cabin inclusions. Cabin and cockpit carpet is standard as are two pedestal seats and folding rear bench seat with padded back rests , swim platform and rear ladder, a number of grab handles throughout, cabin cushions and rod holders on the gunwhales.
On the tech side, basic instrumentation is neatly set out on the dash, electric bilge pump is standard and the sports steering wheel enhances the agility of the 485. Driver forward vision is good through the three section wrap-around windscreen. The centre section opens to enable access to the front anchor well.
For a small boat there is plenty of storage with space for lifejackets and other belongings forward and handy padded side pockets to keep fishing gear, toys, oars and other requirements secure. The underfloor fuel tank has 75L capacity.
Optional Extras
While the standard package will give you plenty of enjoyable times afloat, there are some useful options worth considering. Bimini and envelope for sun and weather protection, side and front clears protect the boat when not in use and the Fusion sound system adds entertainment value.
Specs
The weight, boat only, is 450kg and estimated overall towing weight approximately 950 kg, which makes it suitable for towing by most family cars. A definite factor for consideration with an entry level boat. The height, while on the trailer, should fit the average carport.
