Power Loans for Ski Boats

While fishing is by far the most popular boating activity, many boat owners use their boats for sporting activities including water skiing. Water skiing was a hugely popular recreation in Australia after being introduced into the country in the 1930s though its popularity has declined somewhat in recent times. Wakeboarding while more difficult to master, may have overtaken traditional water skiing in the popularity stakes. But water skiing is still a favourite recreational water sport and ski boats are built especially to suit this tow sport.

We cover some of the ski boat models currently on the market and how we can assist you with finance to make one of these your very own.

Popular Ski Boat Brands

Nautique

The Ski Nautique 2021 model by Nautique is a smart looking boat and claims to be lighter than others in this category. The construction is fibreglass blended with carbon fibre and the results are softer wakes. A key requirement of a great ski boat. The 2021 model is 20’/6.1 metres with a  V hull, 355-450 HP rating and an inboard engine.

Nautique has offices in NSW and the Gold Coast.

Camero Ski Boats

Based in South Australia, Camero has been involved in ski boats for over 40 years and has an impressive range to offer both the recreational and competitor skier. The range includes the 2021 Vision 21s, a 6.5 metre, fibreglass V-hull construction with 315 max HP and inboard motor. As a cross-over model, your family and friends can enjoy general recreational time of the water in your Camero as much as they enjoy water skiing. With a seating capacity for 8 people, there’s plenty of room to take the whole team out on the water.

Slightly shorter at 6.2 metres is the Camero Pro Rider with a capacity of 6. One of the Legend Series from Camero, this is also a versatile boat which can be used for wake boarding, water skiing, knee boarding or just cruising the waterways.

MasterCraft

MasterCraft is a US boat manufactured which is sold via accredited dealers in Australia. The range includes the 7 metre XStar which has a fibreglass V hull, 2.59 metre beam, inboard engine and draws on 0.81 metre draft. The smaller 6 metre ProStar is another water skiing star drawing only half a metre draft so you can get close to shore to collect your skiers. Both are ideal for a range of water sports and general cruising.

Buying and Operating a Ski Boat

In addition to the specialist ski boat manufacturers mentioned above, many other speedboats, wake boats and general small power boats can also be used to tow skiers. When towing skiers it is important that the driver understands the special requirements involved in operating a boat with skiers. Having an observer is essential. More information.

Always check beforehand that the waterway you intend to ski is OK for water skiers. While skiers will need the boat to be at speed to pull them, the speed limits in the waterway must be observed at all times.

Some areas may not permit the sport and some may not be as safe as others.  Rivers are particularly popular for water skiers but they are prone to debris especially after flood and rain events. Keeping a very watchful eye for floating and submerged logs and other obstacles is important.

When selecting a ski boat, you’ll want to ensure it has the power rating you are after and the capacity to take the number of people you like to join you. Always have sufficient life jackets for all on board.

Most specialty ski boats are inboards so the engine will be included in the package price. Ski boats are trailer boats so you will need a trailer. Both boat and trailer will need to be registered. Some dealers will have package deals with boat and trailer and others will offer as separate items. Either way, Jade Boat Loans can include both in the same boat loan if purchased concurrently.

You will of course also need the water skiing equipment. If heading to one of the upcoming boat shows this year, visit the ski boat manufacturer exhibitors to inspect these amazing power boats up close.
